Design of Titanium Alloy Femoral Stem Cellular Structure for Stress Shielding and Stem Stability: Computational Analysis

چکیده
The main objective of this study is to design titanium alloy femoral stems with cubic porous structures that will be able reduce stress shielding and promote stem stability. These structure designs were introduced into as homogeneous functionally graded structures. First, the cellular simulated under compressive loading measure yield modulus elasticity for various porosity ranges. Based on selected range, fifteen different arrangements radial geometrical (FG) developed average porosities 30, 50, 70% respectively. Finite element models physiological loads presenting three walking speeds (1, 3, 5 km/h), where human body weight was assumed. Stresses at bone Gruen zones measured check percentage transfer each compared bulk stem. Several FG shortlisted further investigation candidates hip implants.

Fully porous 3D printed titanium femoral stem to reduce stress-shielding following total hip arthroplasty.
Current hip replacement femoral implants are made of fully solid materials which all have stiffness considerably higher than that of bone. This mechanical mismatch can cause significant bone resorption secondary to stress shielding, which can lead to serious complications such as peri-prosthetic fracture during or after revision surgery. In this work, a high strength fully porous material with ...

This work presents a numerical approach in order to predict the influence of implant material stiffness in a femoral component design when submitted in compression. The implant success depends on the transferred load to the neighboring bone. The finite element method can be used to analysis the stress and strain distribution in the femoral component allowing to improve the implant selection. Fo...
متن کاملMinimal stress shielding with a Mallory-Head titanium femoral stem with proximal porous coating in total hip arthroplasty
BACKGROUND As longevity of cementless femoral components enters the third decade, concerns arise with long-term effects of fixation mode on femoral bone morphology. We examined the long-term consequences on femoral remodeling following total hip arthroplasty with a porous plasma-sprayed tapered titanium stem. METHODS Clinical data and radiographs were reviewed from a single center for 97 rand...

We present a retrospective series of 170 cemented titanium straight-stem femoral components combined with two types of femoral head: cobalt-chromium (CoCr) alloy (114 heads) and alumina ceramic (50 heads). Of the study group, 55 patients (55 stems) had died and six (six stems) were lost to follow-up. At a mean of 13.1 years (3 to 15.3) 26 stems had been revised for aseptic loosening. The mean f...
